Hey guys just suggesting to do more chest openings. You should should also do a strategy spotlight, where you explain how to deal with cards that many people have trouble with, or go over how to make a good deck.

Hoooooog Ridaaaaaaaaaaa! BOOOOOOOM!

Louis Lee

Hi fellas,

It’s Louis again congrats on a successful tourney.

Have a question for you guys to think about in between rage quits..

An evil sorcerer have sent the both of you to parallel universe that is infested with zombies. The only way to escape from this world is to reach a portal that is located 10 miles from your current location.

You have been given a choice to summon a troop (unlimited times) to protect and escort you to the portal. Which card will you choose and why?

Karl Frank

Hey guys,

Sorry for the abruptness of the previous email; I wrote it on my phone while listening to your latest episode and for some reason didn’t think to include an intro/outro. My IGN is Riptides and am a member of Phonecougars (one of Phonecat’s feeder clans). I’m a lvl10 with a trophy high of 3500 and the deck that got me there is Pompeyo’s Payfecta deck. (yes I’m a touch on the p2w side) I won’t write out a description of how to use the deck as I likely couldn’t do a better job than the creator did in that link. Besides the quick drop technique with the firespirits/zap, there were a few other things I wanted to mention after listening to last episode.

Someone brought up the question of where you should be trophywise relative to card levels. In general you can get an idea of how good you are doing by looking at how often your opponents have higher level cards than you. If your opponents usually have higher level cards, you’re doing better than the average player. OTOH, if your opponents tend to have lower level cards perhaps its time to rethink your deck composition and/or focus on improving your skill. That being said, if you are a decent player with a viable deck then the following are definitely attainable:

9.5/7/4/1: 2900-3100 (Tournament level cards can still get you to legendary, however, its getting more difficult to hang over time as more people level up their cards and the season reset keeps pushing people down)

10/7/4/1: 3000-3200

10/7.5/4/1.5: 3200-3500

11/8/5/2.5: 3500+

The above is based off watching my own progression, the opponents I face, and the other members of my clan. Also if anyone is looking to improve their general skill in the game I highly recommend watching all of Orange Juice’svideos… repeatedly… every month or two. Also watch high level tournament game play, preferably with commentary. Obviously streamers are a good place for this; Phonecats is my personal favorite who hosts a tournament every day where he plays during the first half and then spectates the top players for the rest of it.

Sidenote, I used to be a heavy barbs user until I saw the light that is the mini pekka. Pair him with an ice boy to stop a hog before the pig gets a single hit on your tower or with an inferno to make that royalGG user wonder why his strat of just dropping that big oaf at the bridge isn’t working anymore. At the end you usually have a full health (or close) mini-p sprinting towards their tower that can be backed up with cards like miner, firespirits, minions, etc for a devastating push that must be answered. The mini-p is one less elixir than barbs, does not suffer from AOE dmg like the barbs do, and makes for game changing counter pushes. He’s almost an auto-include in the upper levels these days.

Anyway, love the podcast, keep up the good work, and please don’t feel obligated to read this whole email out on air.

Greetings to Rob…. And Joe,

I am Jon of clan “ActualHappiness”. I have been charged with the honor of delivering you this message.

As Supercell continues to work tirelessly to bring us a more streamlined tournament system, my clan has grown tired. We long for battle! My men want to release the hogs!

We propose a tournament between our clans. We will gladly pay the cost in gems for this first battle. If this goes well and you would honor us with more glory in battle, we hope you will consider funding our clans’ blood rage in the future.

At a glance:

Our 50 members Vs 50 of your best members from Cast Royale and Cast Royale 2.

Scoring will be based on the top 10 finishers of the tournament. 1 point will be scored for each card a player in the top 10 wins. So in a 100 player tourney 30 points for 1st place, 20 for 2nd, 15 for 3rd, and 8 points for 4th-8th place. Each point earned will go towards the player’s team (clan).

This will be a gentleman’s game since you could potentially throw matches for your clan’s placement in the top 10. We will be immediately kicking any members who break this rule. What you do with dishonorable members is up to you.

ActualHappiness is a clan lead by four friends from three states. We have a strict 100 donations/week minimum to keep the clan fresh and active. We believe that you can be a “hardcore casual” gamer. A hardcore casual gamer is ultra competitive who treats others with respect, does not boast of his victory, and is willing to learn from his loss.

I eagerly await your reply,

Bill Rouski (website)

HEY!! I love your podcast! Great format with great discussion. The fact you two are brothers shows great chemistry on the mics and makes the whole show enjoyable. I want in the clan though!!!!!! How can I get in as there is no invite button ever on there (and I’ve been looking for weeks!)

Don’t make me become a patreon just to get into the clan, because I will! Need an active clan that has good help and discussion and your community seems awesome with their emails and deck spotlights.

Congratulations to the BOOMMAN because I did see he now has a Miner in his deck (yes I stalk your members profiles lol)

I just received my first two ever legendaries two days apart!!! (Lava Hound bleh, I second the listener in the latest show who was disappointed for receiving two hounds) and I also got my Sparky YESTERDAY!!! Pumped! Well, please let me know what I can do to get in and I will be giving my 5 star review of the podcast soon! Thanks and happy clashing!

Message: Hi Rob and Joe.

Love the podcast! You guys are smooth and bounce off each other so well.

I just wanted to know if you have theory crafted any cards at all? What new cards would you like to see, what cost and effects to mix up the meta?

A quick shout out to my son James who is currently Arena 4 rocking his Pekka + Skeleton Horde finisher.

Keep bringing out this kind of quality guys!

Russell Goulter

Hi guys,

So I hit a turning point in my CR journey… I’m writing this email because I think some of your listeners have been at these crossroads also… the situation is your at 2500 and you think your onto a winning deck (in this case Joes RG deck – which for the love of god I can not get to work!) but no matter the amount of practice you cant progress, to rub it in every round you play is against more and more players with legendaries when you have none (i’ve been playing since March!!)… you desperately start researching and trying other decks only to realize what you already knew which is that the players that do well with those decks have been playing and perfecting them for months so of course your going to be useless with them and go backwards. You start getting frustrated, grumpy, whatever you try just makes it worse…

So what does one do when in this situation… no i didnt throw my phone against a wall again… instead I QUIT!….  but wait there is a silver lining to this story… so keep reading…

So I’ve quit, lots of free time on my hands, wife is happy…rainbow coloured unicorns are singing while flying over the rainbows…..

….anyway… After about 2 weeks of abstaining (from the game!) I thought… what if I just create another account just for mucking around (kiwi saying) after all its a free to play game…. I’ll play casual, not get too involved… so into the Super Cell assimilation machine I step…  this is what happens….

My deck im served up by the Clash Royale new player deck’o’matic 2000 machine is this..

Spare Gobs

So anyway long story short…. Im smashing it, and loving this game twice as much as the first time round… The most fun in this game is in the first 6 weeks.. card progression is fast…. I’ve taken all my knowledge and experience from my first account and absolutely turbo boosted my new account, seriously I am on fire. After 2 weeks I am level 5 on 1550 trophies regularly smashing level 8’s!!  As a level 4 I was beating level 8’s.  It proves beyond a doubt that its your play style, card counter knowledge and unit placement that is way more important than the level of your cards.

I havent changed my deck at all from the one super cell started me with and I havent upgraded it much (level 6 common and level 4 rares) also the 2nd time around you know what cards not to upgrade and waste money on

You get the same enjoyment out of the game whether your level 5 in Spell Valley or level 10 in Legendary arena… actually I would argue that there is more enjoyment in the earlier levels as the game has way less of a grind factor..

So for the players out there that who like me hit a wall, got frustrated and fed up with the game and quit… have a little break then fire up a new account – its a breath of fresh air – the game is fun and enjoyable once more… and you will smash it out of the ballpark (American cliche for bonus points 😉 )

I will eventually get to the 2500 trophy range in a few weeks and who knows what will happen or how I will feel about the game then but until then I’m loving this game and taking it one level 8 opponent rage quit at a time !  LOL !

You guys are amazing and doing an amazing job.

Yours Truly..

PS: Check out my last round…

PPS: Oh and Joe – I see you got the Miner… Rob must be spewing (another kiwi saying) LOL  !!! too bad you get miner and then SC announce its getting nerfed on the 24th… I feel for you mate, cry face bro!

PPPS: I know your on your own Joe so if you wanna save this email for another cast feel free as its not time based.  I just wanted to share my experience in case other players find themselves in same situation I did and quit.

Tablets don’t make good throwing stars either. Not proud of my self, but played after a few beers at the weekend. And after listening to the podcast (great work again you 2) thought you would find it funny that it was a double sparky that brought about the childish tantrum I had. I know your busy with your brother on hols. So will sign off. Thanks again for your hard work. BOOM!!!!!!!!

Sam AKA JustCasual

Hey guys,

always loving the show. I’ve enjoyed being part of the Cast Royale 2 Clan for the last 3-ish weeks. I haven’t been that active in chat, but have been lurking. Everyone has been friendly, helpful, and generous with their donations (RG level 10 – BOOM!).

Question: So I’m F2P and I’ve been very tempted to start putting some money into the game…but I still haven’t. Luckily I did get a Sparky a month or two ago so that has deterred the temptation a bit. So my question is, “what would make you put money into this game and why?”. To be honest, I think the only reason I don’t put money into the game is because it might become an endless spiral. Also, starting tournies don’t count because it’s for your community and unselfish.

One request as well: could you put timestamps in your shownotes. As a fellow podcaster, I know how inconvenient it is, but whenever I’m looking back to the deck spotlight explanations/conversations, it is a bit inconvenient. It would be AWESOME to have the timestamps for atleast the deck spotlights since they’re the content I find myself going back to listen to often.

Thanks for being awesome guys!

Hey guys big fan of the show. I have this deck you might want to try out. It’s a giant, musketeer deck. The deck is giant, musketeer, zap, miner, fire spirts, mini pekka, prince, minions. How it works is you drop your gaint right on the  bridge  followed by your musketeer  right in front of your tower,  menu counter whatever they drop, after that you drop your prrince on the other side

Hey joe and rob I’m Ezra or bill is king on clash royale I have listened to everyone of your podcast from the start and I need help getting to arena 7 I have bin stuck in arena 6 for like 2 months i seem to use the same 12 cards arrows zap fire ball goblins spear goblins minions minion horde barbs prince min P.E.K.K.A and the hog riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiider

now with these cards could you make me the best deck to get to arena 7 also I would love to join one of your clans if you would let me also can’t seem to figure out how to review but if I could 5 stars all around

Jacob Fowels

Deck: Nonstop Surprises.

This deck is made for nonstop rug.

freeze, prince, Baby dragon, (or valk, your choice.) musketeer, minion horde, ( or minions, your choice, ) and zap,.

Put prince behind king tower, baby dragon at bridge, and add minions Or musket if you have elixir. Freeze, if needed.

Warning!! Thebooman, go in time out. This part is just nonstop rug.

Now, if you can tell, that was only 6 cards that i gave you. The other two are the rocket, (or lightning) and mirror. These are the surprise cards.

Mirror the rocket for max surprise.

Invite theboomman back in.

Now, the challenge is, to use boomtown, the deck that i gave theboomman in ep, 16, and this deck, and you two battle it out in a live podcast match with commentating.

You have 3 days to learn the ins and  outs of your decks, then i want you to release a new podcast containing a small tournament of 3 out of 5 with u 2 using these decks. The loser has to pay the winner 10 dollars and has to pay for the next tourney.

Good luck, this time, you will see each other in the arena.

Boom – (5 Stars) by Mike_josef

Love the show for two reasons: 1: the two ‘boom’ brothers Jo and Rob work so well off each other – they are funny yet professional and run a tight and informative show 2. ‘Boom’

Rob and Joe aka “Joe and Rob”, have something special here for fans of the SuperCell game Clash Royale. I don’t write many reviews for podcasts I subscribe to, but this is a necessary review for potential listeners. The show quality is top notch with insightful segments that help you build a range of diverse decks and discuss cycles, strategies and counterpoints. Their banter is comical and keeps me entertained while commuting to work. Nothing ever stale and the format does change a little depending on news or emails, which adds a nice difference show-to-show. Thank you guys for what you do and keep pumping out great podcasts!

A very special thank you goes out to our newest Patron!!!
